Prefer to Gather Your Own Tools?

No problem — you might already have most of what you need. Honestly, when I first started, half my setup came from my husband’s toolbox. Was he thrilled? Nope. Did I make it work? Absolutely. He forgave me eventually… and I bought my own.
If you’re the DIY type, feel free to browse the list and pick what fits your style, budget, and studio setup.

Every tool here is one I’ve tested, trusted, and used to build boutique‑quality pieces — no fluff, no guesswork.

Silverware Jewelry Essentials

Cutting & Trimming Tools

Removing handles and trimming length

  • Metal Cutting Pliers, Bolt Cutters, or Hacksaw
  • I use these bolt cutters from Amazon Bolt Cutters

Smooth the edges once you cut

  • File for Metal specifically
  • I have these but use my sanding wheel now Metal File Set

Shaping & Forming Tools

The core tools for bending, shaping, and forming silverware.

A regular hammer will work.  Wrap it in leather and secure with a rubberband.  The mallet makes life easier.

You need something to help you shape the ring.

  • Sockets or anything very hard and round.
  • Baseball bat
  • Steel Ring Mandrel

Lastly, I suggest a bench vise.  This will make life easier as it will hold whatever it is that you use to shape the ring.

Safety first-  Save your fingers!

Polishing & Finishing Tools

To smooth edges, remove scratches, and bring out that mirror shine.

  • Fine Steel Wool and a Polishing Cloth work fine!
  • Sand Paper or Sanding Block in different grids, from 600 - 1000

We'll go over ways to avoid scratching up your metal so very little final sanding has to be done.

Marking & Measuring Tools

For accuracy, sizing, and clean layouts.

  • A simple string or ribbon works
  • Sharpie (for marking cut points)

Safety & Workspace Setup

Simple, practical, beginner‑friendly.

  • Wear Safety Glasses Please.. Sometimes metal will fly and getting into your eye will be painful- I promise.
  • Protective Surface
  • Good Lighting
  • Gloves (optional)

Optional Studio Helpers

Not required — but they make life easier.
